Unlock the Power of Your Higher Mind, Part 2

By Kumari

In my previous article in this series, which appeared in the July issue, I shared how to clear and access the Center of Your Head, which is your command center and stepping off point to your Higher Mind.

I first learned of this space from my spiritual teacher Ma Jaya. Initially, I sought her out to seek guidance about how to do AIDS service without burning out. She pointed to a large photo of the great Indian avatar, Swami Nityananda, and said: “I will teach you to enter the Chidakasha, the Heart Space in the Head, so you can work with compassionate detachment.”

Soon I had a powerful and direct experience of this when my sister, who was in a great deal of emotional distress, came to see Ma. Ma saw that I was “feeling her pain” and asked me to first go into the chidakasha before I spoke. I immediately felt a release of the intense emotions, and a calm yet clear ability to be present and aware, yet without the flood of sadness that had engulfed me watching my sister struggle.

In his Chidakasha Gita, Swami Nityananda explains that the Chidakasha Heart space is not a reference to the physical heart, nor the heart chakra located in the center of the chest. He refers to the Heart here as “the one, indivisible Sky of Consciousness that is the Absolute. This Heart is beyond the body and the senses and can be accessed through the Crown Chakra in the head.”

I spent many years mastering this “Heart Space in the Head” so I could better manage my extreme empathic sensitivity of feeling everyone’s pain and emotions. Yet it wasn’t till I met Jim Self of Mastering Alchemy that I learned a simpler way to describe and ultimately teach it to others.

Higher Self: “Who AM I?”

How we perceive ourselves in any given moment directly affects what we think and believe in our world, the goals and interests we pursue, and what we believe is possible spiritually and in every aspect of our lives.

As we move deeper into experiencing the truth of who we are, beyond what we can see with our eyes, hear with our ears, or believe with our minds, the pursuit of a direct and personal experience of our True Nature begins to grow until experiencing and knowing our True Self first-hand eventually becomes a primary focus in our lives.

There are many words that attempt to describe who or what our highest identity or “Self” truly is. Here are just a few: Higher Self, the Self, I Am Presence, Pure Being or Essence, Love, Spirit, Soul, Cosmic or Christ Consciousness, Universal Mind, The Tao, God, Nature, etc. Ultimately, these words are only ideas that point to the unlimited and infinite nature of our True Self. In the end, it does not matter which words we use. It is a direct experience of our Higher Self that we ultimately seek.

Universal, Cosmic or Divine Mind

There is a single, intelligent Consciousness that pervades the entire Universe—the Universal Mind. Each one of us is an individualized manifestation of the Universal Mind.

Wikipedia defines Universal Mind as “the universal higher consciousness or source of being in some forms of esoteric or New Thought and spiritual philosophy. The nature of the Universal Mind is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnificent (all-creative) and omnipresent (always present).”

It’s also our nature. Through the Universal Mind, we have access to infinite knowledge, awareness and power; we are able to tap into the limitless creativity and wisdom of the One Mind.

Wiki continues, “The notion of universal mind came from philosopher Anaxagoras, around 480 BC. He taught that all things were created by Nous (Mind) and that Mind held the cosmos together and gave human beings a connection to the cosmos, or a pathway to the divine.” The Universal Mind goes by many names. In the scientific world it is called the Unified Field, in spiritual philosophy we refer to The All or Universal or Cosmic Consciousness and in religions we call upon God, who also has many names.

Whatever you call it, there is but One Consciousness, of which your consciousness must be a part.

I believe all these attributes are present within you at all times as a potentiality, which you can cultivate and call forth.

Higher Mind: the Fifth Body

The Higher Mind is actually one of our bodies, like the Physical body, the Emotional body, the Mental body, the Spiritual body, and then there is the Higher Mind, the fifth body. It is a huge state of consciousness where we remember our stillness, quietness, certainty, focus, ease, flow, clarity, alignment, detachment, allowing, and balance.

Higher Mind Meditation

Find a comfortable relaxed sitting or lying down position.

Close your eyes, breathe relaxed, even breaths

Call all parts of yourself into the Present.

Bring your attention to the Center of the Head.

(Note: this is an actual “space” and it is literally in the center; for some it may be totally new as we have given away our power to others and are therefore out of our central alignment. Review how to access and clear the Center of Your Head in last month’s article.)

Make the intention to access your Higher Mind.

From the Center of the Head, move your focus 2 inches back and 1 inch up. It feels like a location, but it is actually an expanded perspective, a place to live and perceive consciously. Feel the focus, the balance, the detachment. Observe from that quiet still point.

Remember to continue breathing, relaxed, even breaths. Feel the quietness, the clarity, the focus, the ease.

Breathe from that feeling, walk around in that feeling, smile and say hello from that feeling.

So what did you notice in Higher Mind? Did your body/mind get quieter? Did you receive any insights or new awareness?

This Higher Mind is a part of you. It holds the respect, the dignity, integrity, graciousness, and conscious awareness of who you are. It is one of the two energetic still points in the body, along with the Heart.

When they merge, you are able to then think with the Heart and act from the wisdom of the Higher Mind. Eventually you can live your life entirely ensconced in the Higher Mind. What a wonderful world it will be!
