The Art of Happiness

By Anna Trishch

I don’t know anybody who doesn’t want to be happy; yet I know very few people who truly understand the art of happiness. I define this as achieving an inner state of peace and harmony—that inner knowing that life is beautiful and joyful, which then radiates out into the world around us.

I have come to realize that the best and most valuable things in my life are very simple. For me, being happy means having the ability to smile genuinely and rejoice just because “I am.” I am happy when I can enjoy and admire the blessings around me—and there are many.

For example, as I write I am enjoying the light and French vanilla aroma of a burning candle in my room. As I look to my left, I see beautiful bouquets of red and orange roses and white lilies that were given to me just yesterday for my birthday. I am sitting in a comfortable, soft bed, which makes writing (one of my favorite things to do) pleasant. I just had refreshing herbal mint tea. I am truly happy!

Think about this: How much do you really need to be happy and grateful for your life? You might be surprised to find out that it’s really not that much. Think simple and meaningful. Learn to appreciate the small things life.

There are so many blessings and gifts that we tend to take for granted.

Train yourself to wake up every morning and reflect on all that is good in your life, big and small. I know I am not saying anything new here, but it stands repeating because we frequently forget to recognize the value of cultivating our own happiness by being appreciative. What we focus on expands—so don’t forget to remind yourself of the things that bring a smile to your face!

Of course, this doesn’t mean that we will never experience problems or troubles. However, we can know in our heart that eventually they will pass and, when they do, offer us some insight or learning lessons. It’s all about perspective! We are responsible for our own life and creating our own unique experiences.

We also create our reality by following our dreams. It is not always easy, but it gives us great rewards and happiness. Have you found what truly inspires you? Do you listen to the music that stirs your heart? Do you see and believe in your dreams? Finding answers to these questions will add to your happiness and resonate with your soul.

I am happy because I live, I learn, I grow, I love, I give, I receive, I am present, I cherish people who care about me, I love friends who love me, I am a creator, and I am a dream maker.

Why are you happy? Start intentionally painting a picture of your own happiness. Because you can!
