Happiness is BS

By Gregg Sanderson

Introduction

The asterisk (*) is the most hypocritical punctuation mark in the world. It tries to turn naughty into nice. It fails.

Take bullsh*t for example. Since it has an asterisk, it’s not a naughty word. Did it fool you? I didn’t think so.

In the interest of decorum, let’s just abbreviate it. That pretties it up, all right, but BS exposes its secret identity—Belief System.

Does that mean that our belief systems are BS?

YES!

That’s what this column is about, and every time you see the abbreviation, you’ll know I’m talking about a Belief System. Right?

There’s BS that makes you happy.

There’s BS that makes you blue.

But the very best kind of BS.

Is the BS I’m gonna lay on you.

Timeless poetry aside, we all have beliefs that limit our lives in so many ways. They bear no relation to truth, justice, or the American Way. Your subconscious mind doesn’t care.

Whatever you tell it with enough emphasis, it believes. No matter how absurd, it’s true for you. It’s your truth. It’s your BS

Before you could walk, somebody who wasn’t you told you what you can’t do, ways you can’t be, and stuff you can’t have. You learn what you must do, ways you must be, and stuff you must have in order to be happy.

Now, with this potpourri of BS, you go out to live a life dedicated to “Happily Ever After.”

Good luck with that.

The BS is unconscious “programming,” and directs your every thought, feeling and action. It creates stress and runs your life.

A couple of years ago, I was eyeball to eyeball with the Jolly Reaper. After I left the hospital, I wondered why I survived. I decided It was because I still have something important to contribute to humanity. How noble of me.
Then I realized I was just kidding myself. I decided the real reason is because I haven’t had enough fun yet. Of course, that’s BS, too but it sure lightens the load.

On a deeper level, it’s the secret to happiness.

In future columns, we’ll see when, how, and why these unconscious beliefs came about. We’ll discover what they do to you and how you can change them so they won’t do it any more.

Voila! Happiness.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You feel good when people and circumstances fit your BS that tells you how they have to be.
  2. The less they fit, the worse you feel.
  3. That’s just BS, and you can change it.
  4. When you do you feel good, and everything works better.

It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

What’s In It For You?

Only freedom, power and great relationships. What I’ll show you here will put you in charge of your inner programming, so you can be as happy as you want to be.

But you’ll have to give up pity parties, frequent stress and early aging. We’ll explore the beliefs that keep you stuck, and others that make you happy. You decide which you prefer.

What, you don’t believe me? OK. That’s the first belief to change if you want to get to all the rest.

Would credentials help? Would you believe three PhDs? Neither would I. It isn’t academics, it’s personal experience—over 40 years using and teaching this system. It works, and is the closest thing I’ve ever found to a fountain of youth.

Well, maybe just the Fountain of Not Growing Older. Stress causes you to age faster and without it, you age slower (Duh).

Stressful living increases your chances to contract a plethora of maladies. Less stress yields better health, along with less aging, better relationships and happiness.

Isn’t that worth some new BS? Of course it is.

What’s the catch?

It’s a “do-it-yourself” project. You are the only one who can make the changes and you have to be willing do it.

When you reach the point where you’ve suffered enough, the rest is easy. You’ll give up your grip on the familiar, and welcome the adventure of change.”

A new train of thought is on Track 1. All aboard.
