Are You Ready for Something New?

By Rev. Marla Sanderson

“There is a Power for good in the universe and we can use It.”—Ernest Holmes

Call me weird, but I love change! If things stay the same for too long, I just have to shake it up. Usually this means I move to a different house, another city or state, quit my job, or maybe even get rid of everything I own. To me it’s freeing, and I love a fresh start.

I always assume change will bring something better, and it usually does. Many people resist it, and I wonder if it’s because of an underlying fear that things will get worse.
Everything begins in mind, and there’s no better time to remember this than when you start something new. If you set the tone for what’s about to unfold, it’s extremely likely the outcome will tend in that direction.

Dr. William Kent Larkin is a researcher specializing in applied neuroscience, integrating positive psychology and quantum physics. His research indicates that when we live in an “UpSpiral” of positivity there’s a natural tendency to engage unique personal strengths, which can undo weaknesses.

“We are culture driven by trying to change our weaknesses, when actually our weaknesses change very little over a lifetime. We would develop many more prodigies and geniuses if we focused on creating an ‘UpSpiral’ of positive emotion and mood, rather than on … fixing weaknesses.”

You create a downward spiral when you worry and fret, expect the worst, and have no faith in life’s possibilities. When you brood about the “facts” before you instead of the possibilities, you continue the descent. You usually hit bottom when you’ve suffered enough and decide to turn things around.

You step into the unknown every day. You wake up to a new beginning and set the tone with your expectations. It is here you can take charge in simple ways if you send your creative energy into an “UpSpiral” with positive thoughts and appreciation for the life you live. It may take a little practice, but it’s not at all difficult.

“What a wonderful day this is going to be!” Post that on your bedroom wall and use it as a jumping off point each morning for thoughts that create an “UpSpiral.” Think about what you appreciate and what you’re grateful for. Let yourself be inspired by the beauty around you. If you don’t see it around you, create some.

Or try “What a wonderful experience this is going to be!” when it looks like you have a new beginning in your future. Then think about what that might look like. Don’t get hooked on the exact details, but think of the exciting possibilities, how you’ll feel about it, and leave room in your mind for something even better.

If something happens and you are disappointed, affirm “Something good will come from this!” and it always does.

Yes, there is a Power for good in the universe and we can use it. In fact, we use it all the time. The very mind we use is the same Mind that created the universe and perpetuates life, love, ideas and opportunity. It is infinitely creative, all intelligent, and everywhere present. It responds to our thoughts and our words.

There is no top for us – but there is the limitless potential for things to get better and better.  Fear and excitement have a similar motivating energy. One propels downward, and the other an “UpSpiral.” When faced with new beginnings, choose excitement.
