5 Ways to get your groove on.

1. Dance, dance, dance! Recent research on the health benefits of dancing has shown it reduced stress and increases serotonin levels in the body, along with imparting an increased sense of well-being. And did you know that dance can make you smarter? A major study at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City looked at 75-year-old individuals engaged in physical activities for 20 years. The findings added to the growing body of evidence that shows stimulating one’s mind by dancing can help ward off Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, just as physical exercise can keep the body fit. Dancing also increases cognitive acuity at all ages, according the the results, and dancing showed more benefit than other cognative and physical activities examined in the study.

2. Listen to your body. Body intelligence is the key to healing and well-being. When we know something is true about our bodies, we must follow through and address our needs. Have fun by going into a grocery store and letting your body choose the fruits and vegetables by the colors that attract you. This is an excellent way to connect to your body’s intuitive nourishment needs.

3. Enjoy being in your body. Relax your body and rest in your heart. Begin with deep breathing, become aware of your body and embrace being in it. As human beings we live in a physical world, and the physical body is a portal to our reality.

4. Accept your body exactly the way it is. No matter what you think or feel about your body be open and okay with who you are. There are NO judgements in being okay. If you are overweight, or dislike something about your body, accept it. Shifting into acceptance means you are open in your heart.

5. Move like no one is watching you! Let yourself listen to music, move or dance in whatever ways inspire you. Let your body guide you into movement. If you are sitting in a chair, take a deep breath, relax and sink into the chair. Feel your body in the chair. Feel the material of the chair around you. Feel your muscles and bones touching the seat of the chair. Feel your feet touching the ground. Dance, stretch and breathe; enjoy the movement in the moment!
