My birthday was on a Sunday in 2011, and of all the places I could have been I chose to attend service at First Unity St. Petersburg, FL. My day was complete…or so I thought. On Sunday, August 21st, 2011, while standing in front of the congregation, receiving the Birthday Blessings, I understood what unity meant to me. As I looked into the eyes of each individual starring back at me, I felt love—pure love. At that very moment, I realized I did not know how to receive love—pure love from God.
Have you ever believed love was conditional? Have you ever tried to “plug in” to something else—someone else—for love and validation? What would happen if we would “plug in” to Spirit? What would happen if we learned how to give ourselves permission to receive what is already ours? What would our lives look if we were open to receive pure Love?
At Unity that Sunday morning I realized love is pure; it is unconditional. Pure Love exists because we are one. We are spiritual beings living in a human body. We are made in the likeness and image of God. We are One; we are unified with Spirit.
Unity principles guided me on how to be open to receive love, and allow Spirit to flow through me, within me, and all around me. If you are like me, I didn’t know how to open myself up to the changes standing before me. I feared the unknown. What would happen if I allowed myself to purely love another and to be purely loved?
This is what I discovered when I allowed Spirit to express through me:
Pure Love is leaving all judgment aside, stepping into the heart of another, and knowing all is well and in Divine order. The innocence of a baby looking into your eyes, touching your face with his hand, trusting you will remove all pain away is pure Love. Pure Love is a mother and father longing to see their daughters and have them altogether, so they know each one of their forever babies is safe. Pure Love is the touch of your sister’s hand on yours when she realizes she does love you. Pure Love is when God reveals to you the precious gift of Life. Pure Love is when you feel your heart beating with joy every time you speak your truth and empower others to live their lifelong dream.
Pure Love is when you realize you are ONE with your Divine Guidance.
I believe we are One. There is no separation between God and each and every one of us. We are One. You and I. We are One. We are One with Nature. We are One. When I see you, I see me. When I am upset at you, I am upset at me. When I love you, I love me. When I am proud of you, I am proud of me. When I am frustrated with you, I am frustrated with me. We are One.
We are made in the likeness and image of God. We chose to come to Earth to remember who we are and why we are here. We create our lives by our thoughts, words, and actions. There is no need for judgment, only acceptance. There is no need for hatred, only love. There is no need for sadness, only joy. There is no need for disasters, only blessings. There is no need to be despiteful, only grateful.
Amen. Thank you, God.
