What is Your Definition of Life?

By Anna Trishch

My definition of life is simple: “Life is beautiful—down to the smallest detail.” What is yours? If we formulate our own meaning of life on a positive foundation, we get to fully enjoy all experiences. Even difficulties are then perceived from a positive perspective, and they will be transformed into learning lessons and new possibilities. Indeed, there is beauty in the challenges, as they are always followed by opportunities.

We don’t need to go far to appreciate life’s beauty. Simply open our eyes and hearts to the majesty of the universe: from infinite sky to powerful ocean, mesmerizing sunrise, exciting thunderstorm, salty breeze, chirping birds, magnificent mountains; from a genuine child’s smile to the pensive wise look of the elder. There is beauty and inspiration around every corner. Life is beautiful: It is so simple yet so powerful. When we have positive expectations from life, the universe will respond accordingly.

Life opens up when we do…

Your personal meaning of life shapes your destiny because it creates your thoughts, actions, and results. Make sure the way you define life inspires your soul so you become a creator. We all have this power, but few of us use it. The definition, “Life is an achievement” will create a much different experience from the definition, “Life is a struggle.” The mentality, “Every cloud has a silver lining,” changes everything, and it becomes easier to make lemonade when life throws you lemons.

My belief that “life is beautiful” is not just the romantic perception of a naive soul. It is a deep and well-thought-out philosophy of life. I’ll explain: We all love and enjoy the beauty in obvious things. But there is a problem here, and it is that these things give only fleeting moments of pleasure. The “sparkles” wear off quickly. (How long are you excited about your new car? Maybe until it gets the first dent?) I trained myself to see the beauty beyond the obvious things. It’s more fun. It’s the application of the “the treasure in the trash” principle.

One of the biggest secrets in life is that if there is no pain there is no pleasure of gain. (Lottery winners often experience this.) I see beauty in my mistakes and failures, as I’m learning and growing. I see beauty in difficulties and challenges, as they test my mental toughness. I see beauty when I’m turned down, as I work on my resilience and discover something new about myself. I see the beauty when I’m in a bad mood, as I appreciate positive moments more when they finally return. Whatever happens, there is always a new chance, fresh perspective, empowering possibility.

Knowing life is beautiful makes tough moments easier. It gives us power to keep going despite difficulties. Isn’t the thunderstorm storm beautiful? (Or is it dark and scary!?) Our task is not to pray for the storm to pass; we have to learn to dance in the rain. And that’s the beauty of life!

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”—Albert Einstein.

What’s wrong in life is always evident—and so is what’s right. It’s up to us what to select a focus, and that focus determines the way we feel and experience all that comes our way. Whatever our mission in life, we all aspire for fulfillment. Fulfillment is when we say, “Life is beautiful”—and we really mean it.

It’s a feeling similar to emerging yourself in the cool ocean on a hot summer day—you feel a blissful pleasure. Or when you finally accomplish the project you have been working on for months. Or when someone you deeply care about says, “I love you,” which elevates your heart to enormous heights. Fulfillment is when you feel alive as a fully fledged soaring personality. It’s not about reaching the final destination; it’s how you travel toward it. Ultimately, life fulfillment comes from the way you view your life experiences.

Instead of saying, “I failed,” try saying, “I now know which ways don’t work.” You will create a difference energy flow, which will pave the way to the desirable achievement, and consequently will bring the greatest fulfillment. Life opens up for those who give it inspiring meaning. When you say, “It’s great!” you invite the greatness. It is the same when you say, “Don’t think of the pink elephant!” or “Don’t look for the color blue!” The very act of mentioning something brings attention to it.

“Life is beautiful!” Keep saying it like you mean it. Fake it until you make it. Trust me, it does work! To me, life is beautiful because I’m doing what I’m truly passionate about: inspire people by reminding them of their enormous power, unlimited potential. I inspire them to become leaders of their lives, create the life they dream about, to live with passion and fulfillment. Isn’t it beautiful? It is my humble attempt to make the world a better place.

What’s your definition of life? Are you a leader or a follower? Are you a player or an observer? Are you in power or in reaction? Are you taking a stand or responding to a stimulus? What’s your definition of life? Life is beautiful! Live with fulfillment!
