Fairy Tales, the Universe and You

by Anna Trishch

Like many people, I love fairy tales. They carry universal appeal with profound and deep teachings. The draw for humanity is much more than tales of “good vs. evil” with a happy ending. Through opening the curtains of the mysterious and magical, fairy tales help us to better understand our own life. They help bring out the best in us and build our faith in miracles. They reflect our aspirations and dreams, elevate our spirit, inspire our soul, and provide valuable lessons. Case in point: The deep wisdom of the Cinderella story reveals the secret of how to connect with our inner self and make miracles happen.

A Tale of Triumph

Cinderella, a kind sweetheart, is unfortunate to live with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters, who never miss a chance to mock or humiliate her. However, Cinderella’s benevolence and genuine heart, hard work and perseverance, and positive attitude and optimism bring much virtue and merit to her personality. Most of us know how the story unfolds: the young girl cleans off the ashes after being forced to sleep on a floor near a fireplace in the cold and, with the help of her magical fairy godmother, she puts on a beautiful dress, arrives gracefully at a special ball taking place at the palace in a beautiful carriage, and meets the prince, who is enamored with her. As the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella loses her glass slipper in a rush to get home before the magic spell breaks. The prince then uses the slipper to find her, they get married, conquer all challenges—including envy, jealousy, and greed—and live happily ever after.

It is a graceful female journey from a maid to princess. However, the story would not be as powerful and inspiring in the world of art, literature, and movies if it focused only on elegance, beauty, love, genuineness, and a kind heart.

The meaningful and deep fascination with this fairy tale lies in the fact that Cinderella, despite her miserable outside circumstances, never plays the role of victim.

She never complains about unfair treatment and her wretched destiny, and she never blames her family members (although they were evil) or outside circumstances.

Releasing the Victim Mentality

How many people do you know who blame everyone and everything for their perceived miserable existence, not realizing that by having this attitude they attract more of what they resist? In contrast, Cinderella was happy and hopeful in her unhappy surroundings. She subconsciously believed in her powerful inner self and became connected to universal grace through her open loving heart and optimistic attitude. Cinderella had nothing, but she had everything with her positive perspective on life. She became the princess long before she changed her appearance and the prince fell in love with her.

In reality, those who wait for a magic fairy godmother to rescue or fix them will develop the wrong attitude in life and always remain unhappy.

In other words, those who rely on someone else to come and save them, remaining passive and angry, are doomed. Remember, we have no control over external circumstances; we cannot change them, but we can change their meaning to us and our attitude toward them. We can be fully in charge of our inner world, which will shape our outside “reality.”

Miracles happen on the inside; what we see outside is a mere reflection of the inner transformation.

Magic operates at the soul level. The appearance of a fairy in a story is a metaphor for the bridge between our dreams and their manifestation from the soul. It is a graceful tap on our shoulder from the creative source of the universe. Even when the fairy appeared to Cinderella, she didn’t create anything new. She just transformed something that already existed. She didn’t order the dress out of catalogue; she transformed Cinderella’s old rags into a ball gown. The fairy didn’t order a limo; she turned a pumpkin into a couch and mice into horsemen. The magic happened, but was it really magic? Or was it the natural divine grace of the universe? Cinderella had everything she needed within her or around her—just in disguise.

Rags-to-riches stories serves as a powerful inspiration that our dreams do come true. However, they acquire shape and get energy internally. Major transformations always happen at the soul level first. What we observe in the material realm are the side effects of this inner magic.

We are all princes and princesses, whatever life path we are on. Some have embraced their true royal self, some are still searching, and others are in disguise. The recipe for success is simple: Be kind and humble, open your heart, have positive attitude, take responsibility, don’t complain, connect to your inner self with your deepest aspirations, and pursue your happiness. Miracles will follow.
