Allowing Your Success with Sci-fi Wisdom

Reel Life: Imitating Art, Imitating Life

Truth in Reel Life?

I have a confession to make. Many of you have seen me as this ultra-cool chic (Oh wait that’s me, but any way…), but it’s time for me to come out of the closet. I’m not going to beat around the bush or mince words or stall or stall or stall or…

Okay. Here it is: I’m a geek. And I have been a geek far longer than I care to admit. What was the clincher? I blame the TV show “The Big Bang Theory.” Though I may not know much about the intricacies of physics or math (yet I am fascinated by quantum physics and sacred geometry), I got virtually EVERY sci-fi and film reference that Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard dished up, and I have secretly always wanted attend a Star Trek convention in full costume (as counselor Deanna Troi, of course, from “The Next Generation”).

Why do I love these movies and the sci-fi culture so much? Perhaps it is because I have always been a fan of vision and visionaries who believe in taking the human experience into new territory—not the least of which is into a new level of clarity, focus, and excellence. Many sci-fi writers and creators like Gene Roddenberry or George Lucas were and are life-time students of philosophy, spirituality, and leading-edge science. The fact that they use a light-hearted, exciting, and fun medium to share powerful success principles and universal truths makes their work very close to MY heart!

They say truth is stranger than fiction, but I also believe that fiction often reflects truth, so without further ado, here are three quotes from the reel world that just might offer some “truths” to help you Allow YOUR Success in the real world.

Star Wars—The Empire Strikes Back: “Do or do not. There is no try.”

That little green guy packs one heck of a punch when it comes to killer one-liners for Allowing YOUR Success! Think on this: Can you actually try something without doing it? Yes, there is a difference between committing and continuing to do something verses only doing it once but, in all cases, we are either doing something or NOT. The struggle is not in the doing, it is in sitting on the fence of indecision and doubt, and the longer we sit there, the more those fence posts begin to hurt! The solution is this: Get OFF the fence to get back ON solid ground. Make a decision, move forward with purpose, and stop peeking back over your shoulder.

Whatever your religion (or not), the challenge and premise of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah serves as a great example: Move toward the Promised Land (what you truly want) and keep looking forward. The ones who did this kept walking and found their way, whereas the ones who insisted upon looking back became pillars of salt; suspended in the past and a perpetual product of where they were, rather than allowing themselves to taste the sweetness of where there were going.

Choose a path and decide that the path you are on IS the right one for now. Give it your full attention and love. You can always make a new decision and do something else later, but in all cases, life feels so much better when you DO—when you go forth and LIVE. Rock on, Yoda!

The Matrix: “Being ‘The One’ is like being in love, no one can tell you you’re in love, you just know it…”

Rather than looking for something or someone outside of you to define or provide validation, when you are fully in your own power you just KNOW, and from that powerful place you then receive confirmation. When contemplating a decision or action, I have discovered that “the question IS the answer.” When you are still questioning whether or not this is the right thing, if s/he is it, etc., this is often an indication that what you are contemplating may not be the best option in this moment. It doesn’t mean that it is bad or wrong, only that it is not the path of greatest joy, ease, and flow right now, based on how you feel and how ready you are for it.

You know when you know, but when you don’t all that means is that more information is needed. Your current perspective or readiness is not a match with said thing/person/experience (which could change when you opt to don a new perspective or attitude), or that there is another time window or combination of elements that can deliver the goods in even BIGGER, better ways than you imagined.

On the other hand, when you’ve got the “Absolutely Factor*” going and KNOW that something IS for you and that this IS the perfect action to take, have you noticed that there is NO question? Things feel natural and all the parts and pieces just fall into place. It’s as if life just wants to back you up in every way and even fill in details and bring players to the table that you didn’t even know you needed! Just like Neo in The Matrix, when he was inspired to make the decision to save Morpheus and nothing could stop him, he both accomplished that goal AND discovered that he was indeed “The One.”

How do you get to the “Absolutely Factor?” Do the inner work FIRST. Did Neo successfully take on the agents and stop bullets right out of the box? No way, Jose! He was terrified at first and was not having ANY of it! It was only after consistently training his body and mind (doing the focus work), disregarding the label that others had placed on him (with the help of our lovely Oracle, AKA another version of HIS inner self), and listening to his own gut (regardless of how crazy it seemed), that he became “The One.”

What about Yoda and the idea of getting off the fence, making a decision and taking action? To quote a great song, “Free Will” by Rush, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.” Just because you are not making the big bold moves or forging ahead to save the world this moment, it does not mean that you are not doing or choosing. On the contrary, it is the seemingly small choices you make and actions you take along the way that truly position you for the “big” successes. What many do not know is that these little steps and day-to-day choices are also where the potential for the greatest fun and excitement lie. It is the treasure hunt that makes finding the treasure so delicious!

Here’s another thought: Though you can eventually correct for acting or deciding while on shaky or fearful ground, why deliberately bring struggle and drama along for the ride from the outset when you can do the mental/emotional /attitude work first (like Neo) and then move forward from a place of clarity, focus, and excellence? When you allow YOURSELF to first BE The One and then decide and act from a place of certainty and power, the journey is FAR sweeter, your actions are far more efficient and effective, and everything flows better!

Avatar: “I see you.”

EVERY single thing that we do as humans involves relationships, and there is simply no escaping it. When you feel great, things are working and others are cooperating by doing what you would like them to do, you LOVE the people! In contrast, when you feel funky, things are out of whack and “they” are not behaving the “right” way, people just plain suuuuuuck! Perhaps if you could just send the entire human race a memo to let them know they must always be nice, happy, courteous, warm, generous, positive, and helpful when in your presence, you could finally live happily ever after? Let me ask you a question: Do YOU have the ability to be happy and a perfect, always politically correct citizen who dots every I and crosses every T at EVERY second of EVERY day? If you say yes, you are an escaped “toon” or a super-hero who has accidently stumbled into our world. However, if you are of the human variety, (present company very much included!) the answer is NO. If you can’t do it, how can you expect others to always tow the line? Rather than drive yourself nuts by trying (and in this case, there is only “try!”) to control the behavior of others, why not focus upon the thing you CAN control—how YOU feel.

In the movie “Avatar” the people of Pandora always greeted each other with “I see you,” which I translate to mean something like “Namaste:” The Divinity/good in me recognizes the Divinity/good in you. Could you imagine how many people you could inspire to excellence if you were able to see and consistently focus upon their beauty, strengths, value, and potential? Could you imagine how effective YOU would be in all that you do if you were able to see this in your SELF? Here’s the funny thing: The more you sincerely focus on the good that is (or could be) in others, while extending the same courtesy to your SELF, the more often YOU get to feel good! An added bonus: The more consistent you are with this process, the more you feel like the whole world actually DID get the memo.

“I see you.”

The Bottom Line on Allowing YOUR Success with SCI-FI Wisdom

To borrow from Morpheus in The Matrix, “What is real? How do you define real?” Perhaps this is just another version of “reel” life, imitating art, imitating life?

Here’s to really Allowing YOUR Success and celebrating as you “boldly go where no one has gone before!”

“Do or do not, there is no try, so why not just let yourself be alive?”
