Search for the Sacred

by Ricky Roberts III

Many of us cannot deny that there is a spiritual aspect to our existence. Some of us pursue it more than others. We go to schools, read books, and/or attend a wide variety of workshops, discussions, services and lectures. We want to know how we fit into the vastness of the world; who, and/or what God is; and what we are called to do in and with our life.

The connection to one’s own spirituality, or the personal search for the sacred, comes in many ways and forms. The understanding of spirituality, and how we nurture it, is different for everyone. Even when two people adopt the same religious beliefs and practices, they can experience spirituality differently.

The most important aspect of spirituality is not the categories that have been established for it, or how we identify with them, as much as it is encouraging the practice of spirituality in some form. The practice of spirituality does not stop in the buildings we choose to worship in, the Holy Scriptures we learn from, or the people delivering the messages; it simply begins there.

The search for the sacred can be found in everything we do and experience, if we choose to look for it in them.

What ever your chosen modality your effort is to understand more about who you are and what life is, honor it, welcome it, and stay open to the many ways you can see it in all that you do.
