Reflections… Free Will and Freedom of Choice

By Ricky Roberts III

Imagine this: You are given life but not the freedom to choose how you will live it. Imagine that you don’t have the power to decide how to treat the people around you, even yourself; to determine what to take or not take from your life experiences; establish whom you choose to spend your time with; decide if you are devoted to your higher purpose or not; resolve to pursue your dreams or not; or simply conclude how you live your life in general.
When we stop to think about what it would be like not to have the freedom of choice in how we will live our lives, we can appreciate more deeply just how beautiful the gift of free will is.

Although we may not always choose what life brings to us, or those who may come into our life and go out of it, we still have our free will.

We have the power to determine how we will interact with the majestic and divine experience that we call “Life,” even in places under authoritarian rule around the world or during experiences where we are limited to our inner journey alone. This is not to say, or imply in any way, that in times of adversity or struggle that it is easy to see the goodness in all things. Ultimately, despite how hard it may be for us to find peace in some situations, great beauty comes in knowing we have the freedom to choose how we perceive all events and outcomes and ultimately define how they contribute to our life and its overall purpose.

Think about it: You have the power to choose how you will live your life!
What does that look like to you? How does that make you feel? Most importantly, what will you do with it?
May you find clarity and make the choices that will best nurture your higher purpose of being.
